Assignment 3 - Interpreting a Quote (Variation 1)

The assignment this time is to choose a quote and create an image inspired by the quote and then do four variations of that image. I chose:

Not all Who Wander are Lost
— J. R. R. Tolkien

First, we were tasked with sketching five concept drawings based on our chosen quote.

I chose to continue with concept 4.

Variation 1

This is my first variation image based on the quote "Not All Who Wander Are Lost" by J. R. R. Tolkien. The entire image was painted with a custom wet brush (learned from s Youtube tutorial by Davey Baker). One of my main goals for this assignment was to get a more "painterly" look and, although I am not completely happy with the final image, I do think I achieved a more painterly look so I'm happy about that. It's a bit messier than I would like and I didn't add as many plants as I originally planned due to time constraints but overall I'm fairly happy with how it turned out.

The color scheme of this image is monochrome green. The color scheme and lighting were very different from what I normally do so I had some trouble trying to get that right but I'm happy with the level of depth that I achieved in the image. I absolutely love the custom wet brush (it has beautiful blending) so I will definitely continue to practice with it.
