Harold and the Purple Crayon
A short film made by myself and seven other people over the course of eight weeks based on storyboards by Kaila Sanfilippo.
Harold and the Purple Crayon - Full Short
Harold and the Purple Crayon - Scene I was Responsible For
My Job on this Project was 3D Animation Director
I was responsible for everything in Harold’s bedroom scene including modeling*, texturing, lighting, rendering, compositing, rigging, and xgen hair simulation.
I sculpted Harold in Zbrush and then retopologized and rigged him in Maya. I used the advanced skeleton auto rigging system to speed up the rigging process. I also learned how to use xgen interactive grooming to make Harold’s hair.
All other assets* were modeled in Maya and then textured using Substance Painter. The pillow and comforter models were modeled in Maya and then deformed using cloth dynamics. I also tweaked the models further in ZBrush to fix the shape.
Programs used: Autodesk Maya, Pixelogic ZBrush, Substance Painter
*The only object I did not model was the dresser; which was modeled by Matthew Cowley but textured by me.
